The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 (Regulation 10) require that, if the top storey of the building is above 11m in height, flat entrance doors should be checked by the responsible person at least every 12 months, and fire doors in communal areas every 3 months.

Fire Doors are installed in so many different types of buildings, not just public spaces such as hospitals, schools and universities, retail and entertainments complexes, but also care homes and residential properties with multiple occupancies, such as high-rise buildings.

The nature of these environments mean that the doors receive a huge amount of use, making them susceptible to regular wear, tear, and damage, which in turn compromises the quality of the fire protection they provide.

This all adds up to the requirement of regular inspections to ensure the buildings are compliant with fire safety regulations and that the fire doors are effective as they need to be. Fire Doors should be checked at least once every 12 months, and if the door is in a high-traffic area they should be checked more regularly e.g. at least once every 3 months.
